FEATURED TITLE
Walkable City
Jeff SpeckAuthor Speck's objective is direct - how to make cities and towns more pedestrian friendly. His emphasis is not just on the New Yorks and Chicagos of the country but also on our smaller towns and cities as well. What are some of this city planner's suggestions? Invest in top-notch public transit systems. Consider protecting pedestrians by having enclosed walkways. Decrease the number of one-way streets. Build visually interesting buildings. Plant trees, encourage walking and discourage autos. Easy? No, but Speck sees it as really worthwhile.
