Grandmother's Garden: The Midwestern Home Garden, 1890-1945 with Susan Talbot-Stanaway

Grandmother's garden was an intensively American garden; it looked toward the nation's colonial past and rejected the formality and exotic flowers that delighted Europeans (as well as grandmother's mother). Our grandmothers often saw their gardens of flowers and vegetables as healthful, moral, innocent sources of recreation, as well as a source of food. Popular books, magazines and seed catalogs offered suggestions and colorful pictures.  This talk will celebrate spring with vintage photographs and paintings of gardens in Ohio by Zanesville's own Karl Kappes.
