Black Men in Blue: The Civil War, Ohioans, and the United States Colored Troops
Nearly 180,000 black men fought in the 163 segregated regiments during the Civil War, with almost 5,100 free blacks from Ohio among them. Join us to learn more about this important chapter in Ohio's history when Dr. Kelly Selby presents her fascinating program. Selby's program focuses on the Ohio black community's response to the national conflict, the wartime participation of free black men, and the impact of their service on all Ohioans. Dr. Selby is an assistant professor at Walsh University where she teaches U.S., Civil War and Women's Histories. Registration is requested for this free program and can be completed by contacting the Reference Department at John McIntire Library - 740.453.0391, ext. 116 or 132. This program is made possible in part by the Ohio Humanities Council, a state affliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
